[ale] Screen resolution in X versus console

I'm having some trouble with one system I just installed. The display
is a widescreen 1920x1200 and the system has an Nvidia GeForce 5200
installed. The nvidia drivers from the Debian repository are installed
(nvidia-glx-legacy-173xx).

The console framebuffer seems to only want to work at 1024x768 but X
starts up (starting from the command line and having set the nvidia
driver in xorg.conf) and switches to 1920x1200x24 with no problems.
However, upon exiting X, the card is now at 1920x1200 and the display
complains about being out of range.

When I configured grub to load a higher resolution (via gfx_payload) I
ended up with the same problem, out of range on the monitor. I was only
able to get the console framebuffer to work at 1024x768.

I know I'm missing something somewhere but I haven't been able to figure
out what's going on. I'll need to double check that nouveau is properly
blacklisted (I think it is by the installer).
