Hey Brian, doesn't look like it worked for you. Output was xyx.net
Escaping the @ symbol should work fine.
[tesla]$ emailx='xyx\@abc.com'
[tesla]$ echo "laplace" > foo
[tesla]$ perl -pe "s/laplace/$emailx/" foo
xyx at abc.com
