You're likely right, because the integrated video uses system memory and
needs all the bandwidth it can get.

In general, how many apps are memory bandwidth bound? I'd go for the
extra upgrade potential using a larger DIMM allows.

This is all speculation, I don't have numbers to prove or disprove
anything.
