I'm not 100% what you are asking for... are you asking how to use dig
against a different DNS host than one in /etc/resolv.conf?   

Btw, I can't resolve any IPs (A records) for pool.ntp.org from any DNS
system except 4.2.2.1. Even 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 don't have anything
cached.
