[ale] DNS problem

I'm running BIND 9.2.4.  It forwards to my ISPs DNS servers except for a few 
domains.  For some hosts that should be forwarded, I'm not getting the 
response I get when I go directly to my ISP.  Any ideas?  Best way to debug 
this? 

Specifically, for pool.ntp.org, I'm not getting an ANSWER.  I've been using 
dig, but I may not be using it to it's fullest potential.
