Thank you for your reply.
I'm runnin' Debian-2.6.17.2.
I'm a bit confused that
du -sh /
says "20G" and the HD is approx 10G.
Anyway, what I've decided to try is "parted", the partition editor.
Partitions can be resized, moved, deleted, etc....
I have no experience with this but my plan is:
since I don't have enough remaining space on hda to simply move
hda2 to the end of hda, and thereby create enough space adjacent
to hda1 to resize [expand] it; so, I plan to move each partition,
maintaining it's size, as far toward disk's end as possible, starting
with the last and working upward to the first, which I'll then
expand.
