For what it's worth, this is a system that's been running smoothly for 
sometime, and decided to 'go wonky' all on it's own.  Rebooting has not 
corrected the problem, so I think it's not a PID, FD, or mem shortage.  Top 
indicates it's not a CPU shortage.
