[ale] FC4 and setting $ISPLAY

I may have discarded this before it got out, apologies if I didn't...

I've recently installed FC4 and cannot get $DISPLAY set correctly to
allow xterms (or other stuff) from remote boxes to show up on my
display.  My attempt to Google for an answer are lost in a sea of
troubles about Nvidia cards and other hardware issues.  Anyone know
the secret handshake for this in FC4?
