[ale] FC4 and DISPLAY settings

Hello all,

I upgraded my work desktop to FC4 and I'm having some trouble getting
DISPLAY set correctly.  I can run gnome-terminal and others from the
menu system, but xterm from the command line gets errors.  Any help
appreciated.
