Hadn't worried about the 10 / 100 mix  before.  Pretty sure I had the 10 base 
windblows system and one of my 100 base Linux boxes on the router with the 
100 base switch, then the eMac, 10 base LaserWriter and other Linux boxen 
going through the switch.

It's a complete mystery why it decided to stop working.
