This is normal. RedHat has borrowed the alternatives concept from
Debian (I don't know when RedHat started doing this, 7.0 maybe?). Try
"man alternatives" for more information.
As for sendmail, how are you configuring it? Are you using M4, editing
the sendmail.cf directly (shudder), or some other means?
