[ale] mozilla doing SMTPS at port 465

I have trouble setting up mozilla-0.99/RH-7.3 to talk to my ATT mail 
server for outgoing mails. ATT is using plain SMTP inside a SSL tunnel 
instead of what rfc2487.txt suggested. I've been using PINE under linux 
to send private mails. Anybody has a get-around to fool mozilla till the 
developers agree to support this popular though non-standard setup?
