[ale] RH7.2 login.........can't ?

Greetings Again,

I can login at a text console fine.

This is about logging in at the color console at bootup [gdm]. When I 
attempt I inevitably get an authentication failure.

Is this about SecurityPolicy ? If yes, how is this remedied, please ? 
Also where is the SecurityPolicy info ?

If no, what's my problem's solution ?

BTW, gnome sawfish.

Further, I can get a gui going by killing the X:0 and running startx.
