I've heard a different story on the "brokenness" of 2.96. I thought it
was on this list, but maybe we hit it on the LVM mailing list...anyway,
2.96 isn't broken, instead, its complient with existing standards, which
means many programs (or progammers) that didn't stick to standards could
not use 2.96.

While on the same boat, I'm also interested in updating the gcc compiler. As most of you might know redhat 7.x ships with a (broken?) 2.96 compiler. Would it be adviseable to upgrade to 3.0 or downgrade to 2.95? Any links, info, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
