Just grab the source RPM for the kernel you want. See the Kernel HOWTO at
http://www.linuxdoc.org if you have questions about building it.
Last I heard, GCC 3 is still pretty broken itself. 2.95.3 is a good stable
version.

Subject: [ale] Kernel Upgrade
Hello all,
I'm running Redhat Linux 7.1 with kernel 2.4.2. I was wondering if any
one has/know of a resource (web site) that explains how to go about updating
the kernel to at least 2.4.8. While on the same boat, I'm also interested
in updating the gcc compiler. As most of you might know redhat 7.x ships
with a (broken?) 2.96 compiler. Would it be adviseable to upgrade to 3.0 or
downgrade to 2.95? Any links, info, help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Calvin
