[ale] Mandrake 8.1 failure

I wrote a few days ago about a failure of Mandrake 8.1 to install . . . I
just tried Mandrake 8 wit the same hardware, and it installs and runs just
fine . . .

Any clue why 8.1 is so different it won't run once installed ???
