[ale] incomprehensible Kernel Compile Error........

Greetings !

Attempting to compile a new kernel for Debian-2.4.9, I get the following
error message:

	gcc -D__KERNEL_ -I~/linux/include -02 -DSTDC_HEADERS -c misc.c

	Internal compiler error: cc1 got fatal signal 11

	make[2] misc.o   		Error 1

	make[1] ~compressed/bvmlinux	Error 2

	make	bzImage			Error 2
