[ale] XFree 4.0.x

i finally upgraded from X 3.3.6 to 4.0.1(it was on a CD).
with 3.3.6 i had been running 1152x864, 1024x768, 800x600.
i've tried to get this in 4.0.1 but it throws out the 1152x864 mode.

with 3.3.6 the specs for each mode were in the /etc/X11/XF86Config and looked
like:
 # 1152x864 @ 60 Hz, 53.5 kHz hsync                                        
Modeline  "1152x864"   89.9    1152 1216 1472 1680   864  868  876  892
-HSync -VSync

where is this with X 4.0.1?
is there a way to fix this with out tweaking files?
