[ale] cron problem

My daily cron jobs keep failing, here is the msg from cron:

Date: Mon, 13 Apr 1998 01:02:04 -0400
 From: Cron Daemon <root at elohim.myriad.com>
To: root at elohim.myriad.com
Subject: Cron <root at elohim> run-parts /etc/cron.daily

shell-init: could not get current directory: getwd: cannot access
parent directories job-working-directory: could not get current
directory: getwd: cannot access parent directories

Any ideas?

I can execute run-parts /etc/cron.daily from a root prompt w/o a 
problem.

System is RH 4.2.
