[ale] modem advice wanted

A friend of mine just got a Mindspring account and has a 28.8 modem.
He's thinking about upgrading to 56, and is looking around for a good
deal (mostly online).

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good 56k modem - in 
particular, is there any kind Mindspring recommends using with their
dialins? Any good deals anyone has seen lately?

(oh, and of course he is a linux user (rh5.0), but is not on this list)
