I've restored my system thanks to Chris Ricker.  (I copied the 4.2
version of ld.so onto the dos partition, booted into single user mode,
then rpm'd the rpm file using --force.)

I've tried your suggestion of using "rpm -ip file" and "rpm -qp file"
but I keep getting errors.  Does RPM expect the file to be of the
following format:  ftp://host/file.rpm ?
