[ale] delete key in netscape

Does anybody know why the backspace key doesn't work for me on the URL 
line in Netscape 2.02 or Netscape 3 Gold?

TIA for any suggestions...  Isn't there a HOWTO or something for doing 
Netscape?  I just downloaded from netscape, untar'd and ran - everything 
works except for the backspace key...
