[ale] kernel crc error

Does anybody know why a kernel that compiled cleanly would give a crc error?

I compiled 2.0.7 last night, got no errors, but get:

	Uncompressing Linux...

	crc error

	-- System halted

when I try to boot it.  I have no idea what's wrong, so any (even 
seemingly simple) suggestions are welcome.  TIA
