In many cases, particularly embedded devices, the vendor may have gone
out of business or ceased offering software updates for that product, in
which case customers would have to pay to /replace/ the products, not
just upgrade them--for no benefit to themselves.  Good luck with that.

That's why the 240/3 idea was abandoned years ago, and nothing has
changed since then.
