[ale] Slightly OT: Independent Hotspot software for Android?

So, if you replace your Verison SIM card with, say any EU SIM while 
traveling, and you attempt to fire up the hotspot, it will cheerfully 
say, "This isn't a Verison SIM, bugger off".   So, you have data, but 
cannot share it with anyone you are traveling with.

Has anyone found a reliable independent WIFI hotspot implementation?  
There are lots of apps which claim to be a hotspots, but comments abound 
that they are but Skins which call the native hotspot code.   Which will 
promptly plotz.
