[ale] Ergonomic keyboard that generates <alt>-F1 commands?

Someone pointed out here that the MS keyboard didn't generate the proper 
signals for <alt>-F1 virtual terminal switching. Good to know, I thought 
it was just me.

Is there a decent ergonomic keyboard that does do <alt>-F1 well? I liked 
the MS feel but don't use MS. Or is there a way to take whatever the MS 
keyboard generates and translate it?
