Well, it depends what the actual error is.

I interpreted from the OP that they were getting bounce messages from
gmail, yahoo, etc for messages he sent through ALE.  Maybe my
interpretation was wrong?

Obviously Joe Jobs happen, and ALE wouldn't be involved in that.
