[ale] Using rsyslog/syslog-ng instead of systemd journal?

Has anyone implemented systemd and know how to disable the journal (or
stop writes) and use rsyslog/syslog-ng for handling logging?  I seem to
be finding all sorts of conflicting information in my searches.
