Just a week ago I installed Mint 17 along side of an 8.1 winders system
on a new Lenovo laptop. I also split the drive in half using the MS
disk utility and created a swap and root partition via gparted. Linux
installed and booted up fine, but when I tried to boot the 8.1 partition
it gave me errors and suggested it could either restore everything from
scratch or just copy some files over. I elected the latter since I
didn't want to start over. And it worked. Now I have a dual boot
Lenovo laptop. I did have to go back and remove the Superfish crap and
some of the extra garbage that Lenovo thinks I need but that wasn't a
big deal.
I did have to turn off the secure boot before the thumb drive would even
boot, contrary to some of the articles I've read.
