The shared work we have done to get Linux systems to actually work is 
something that binds us together. We've worked for our freedom and 
"stand on the shoulders of giants".

It is much easier to accept divergent views when we know the other 
person has worked as hard as we have, even if they came to a different 
philosophical position.
