[ale] crunch-time programmer help needed

The ball was dropped and now it's crunch time.

My wife's employer is looking for a Java coder for an intense one week 
or so project. Knowledge of GIS would be helpful.

My understanding of the need is as follows:

User has a file.
The file is typically binary shapes.
The file needs to be analyzed for specific definition areas.
Those areas are then presented to the user to associate with the XML 
definition areas of the output format.
Once chosen, the file is translated to the defined XML format.

The XML definition exists and a general definition of the input file 
exists. There is some code that exists but it appears to present some 
buttons only. The original programmer flat lied about their abilities 
and progress on this.
