Yeah, what Byron said. With some additional thoughts. I want to be a
programmer and I've programmed in a few scripting languages. My biggest
difficulty has been staying involved enough to go from small things to
larger ones.
If you've already been a programmer and are getting back into it, I'd
recommend a few things to try in addition to Byron's comments.
1. Check out some of the on-line or IRC communities. Find a good fit.
#python excels at this, ##php is hit or miss.
2. Maybe work through "7 languages in 7 weeks" and see if any of them
are fun.
3. Once you find a language then work with people to have fun at it, not
just code.
For language thoughts, my preferences are:
Computer to People -> PHP
Computer to Computer -> Python
Computer to itself -> Go or C
If you're thinking jobs, Java on Android is the up and coming. Crappy
thought though that is, smart phones and tablets are the future for the
next decade or so.
