Michael,

Let me answer from an Enterprise SysAdmin perspective. We get 3-5 Java 
updates per year that are mandated by higher echelons. I can assure you 
it's a pain in the rear.

On the other hand I've seen applications embed very old Java versions 
and no one cares.
