[ale] ddrescue on cdrom

I ran into a similar problem over the weekend.  I've been cleaning out
and have gone through about 100 CDs.  Most were backups I no longer
needed.  

I saw this issue with any disk that was RW.  Ubuntu would not prompt me
to burn to a blank disc nor would it mount it.  

I also ran into a problem where I had on DVD that I had issues reading.
To fix that I put it into a much older USB extern DVD-RW drive.  I was
able to read it just fine.

I suggest you try an older drive.
