I did that early on in my Linux days. I had my important data on
floppies (I have never had a tape drive in my life), so I didn't panic.
In fact, I think that's when I found dosemu or something like that and
figured out that I need not ever restore that, so I redid the system and
had Linux use the whole thing. :)
