[ale] cups accounting

I have been googling for days and from what I can figure, print accounting 
is nearly impossible in cups. There doesn't seem to be a way to call a 
script right before the job is sent to a printer and then again right after. 
If I could do that, I could use snmp to get the page count. There is a 
page_log file but that doesn't say whether the pages printed were color or 
b/w.

Anybody have any idea how print accounting is done with cups?
