I used to do the same. But then I started using iTunes (because there
wasn't any other decent players available on OS X). iTunes doesn't
give a damn about your directory structure. It does its own thing and
to hell with your file system layout preference. Since iTunes follows
the "listen to singles" ideology and not the "listen to albums"
ideology, it relies on proper ID3 tagging to determine all sorts of
things about a song. Included is where the file will be stored and
under what directory.
