[ale] NW & email issues

Hi folks,

I have a little Adam box running Xbuntu 10.10 but managed to turn off
networking from an applet in the tray at top of desktop, now after reboot
the tray & applet don't appear and I can't figure out how to turn it back
on.

Recently got Comcast for internet service and am going to drop AT&T but
would like to suck down all my emails from MaBell first.. How do I go about
doing that? I mostly use gmail and haven't set up Evolution or any of that
for a mail client.
