I'm not sure where rrdtool fits. There could be 100s of console
devices. For example I could keep histroy for many cisco consoles.
Anything that is on the cisco console would be logged to a separate
file. There is a directory tree structure that separates each log file
by location and monitoring device address. log rotation keeps the files
under 1M ea. On one server, the whole tree is under 100M in size and it
has been running for 3 years!
