[ale] Thunderbird won't display email

This morning when I started Thunderbird I was unable to read my email. 
The folders pane show counts of unread messages as well as the pane that 
displays the list of messages in that folder, but the message viewer 
pane is blank when I select a message. I don't even get header info 
displayed. If I click on the message to open in new tab I get a blank 
tab with subject line in the favicon. I have tried several restarts of 
app as well as disabling all addons with no change.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try or look at? I can 
view all of the messages through Firefox at mail portals (ie: gmail; 
comcast.net) just not in my Thunderbird client.
