[ale] Video capture

I've got a .rm file that plays well in vlc, but doesn't convert well
via mencoder.   The mencoder issue appears to be some proprietary
interlacing in the realvideo.   Since the .rm plays well in vlc so
what I would like to do is play the video in vlc and capture that with
something that can record a selectable window.   Ideas?

An no, this isn't anything drm protected.  The video is an old
corporate pep-rally video.
