The problem is vim is not vi. Vim seems to want to be an EMACS wanabee. After using simple vi for decades, all the added stuff just gets me annoyed. For example take undo bufferlines. I use ^U to put the cursor back to where I started, always have. :e! is for undoing lines (because if your smart you save early and often).
