[ale] HP Laptop Problem

My wife bought the HP laptop that was a Black Friday special last year.
The laptop is running well but does something weird.  Sometimes she
can't turn on the laptop.  I have to remove the battery and put it back
in order for it to come on.  It is as if removing the battery resets the
system so that it can power up.  Is this hardware failure?
