[ale] custom kernel causes restart

I'm trying to build a custom kernel with the latest mac support for my 
macbook pro.  It appears to being booting fine and running through the 
usb subsystem when it suddenly stops, displays 'restarting system' and 
reboots.

I've not been able to google up any useful stuff.  It's been a long 
while since I built a kernel, so I'm not sure what's up with this.

Anyone have any insights?
