[ale] line wrapping in Thunderbird's compose

Sometimes when I compose an email in Thunderbird I type and type.  
Sometimes I may hit enter when I get to the end of the compose window 
sometimes I may allow it to wrap.   When I do this the mail does not look
right to the receiver.  Is there a setting in Thunrderbird that will force
a NL after the proper number of characters have been typed?
