[ale] big laptop advice

HP dv7-1245DX was a shade under $600 at Best Buys. 

Ubuntu 64 bit installed okay.

Shrinking the vista partition was entertaining. 

8.10 resulted in no ethernet and no wireless.    8.04 at least got the
ethernet working and I've futzed the wireless into working.   Every
kernel update I have to dork with it again. 

running 64 bit has meant that some packages I hoped to run (Userful)
are unavailable, so think that through carefully.
