[ale] thinkpad recovery

I'm trying to run the rescue and recovery disk for a thinkpad T60. When
it finally boots, it prompts for a 'Windows password.' I've never seen
a recovery disk that prompts for a password. Anyway, if I enter the
password for the pre-populated user id, it fails. I've tried the
administrator login/password and it fails. There's a check box that
says 'I forgot my windows password,' but when I select it, it returns:
Unable to locate valid key information for any enrolled user. Bypassing
logon [ok]
Selecting 'ok' simply returns me to the original login window.
Hints would be greatly accepted...
