I haven't used FreeDB; perhaps you'd have better luck with MusicBrainz?
I know that the Sound Juicer cd ripper supports it.
The neat things about the MusicBrainz (non-profit) service and
(open-source) software is that not only can it identify CDs and provide
metadata for their tracks, it can also help you properly tag your
existing mp3 or ogg files by identifying them via acoustic fingerprints.
