[ale] WAV 8bit -> 16bit

Can anyone tell me how to use sox to convert a 8bit wav to a 16bit version?

I'm adding recordings to asterisk and they are 8bit and asterisk is 
complaining about
that.  All my other recordings are 16.

Here is the file I want to convert
monitored.wav: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, Microsoft PCM, 8 
bit, mono 8000 Hz
