Another issue may be that some ISPs only permit the MAC address you give
them within your house. Knology in Columbus is like that, and it's
irritating and anti-consumer. If I'm at the in-laws' and I disconnect
my nephew's Sony Vaio and put my laptop in its place, nothing will work
unless I call Knology and get their "permission."
